Doctor contracts Lassa fever in Taraba

A medical doctor with the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo has tested positive to Lassa fever, management of the hospital has confirmed. Acting Head, Clinical Service of the hospital, Dr Ahmed Jatau, disclosed this on Tuesday, The PUNCH reports. Jatau explained that six suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported with four deaths, adding that the affected medical doctor was currently undergoing treatment at Iruwa Specialist Hospital in Edo State. "We have sent 10 samples to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for testing. We had six positive cases out of which four have died even before their result came in. "For the remaining two cases, one has been discharged while the other, who is our own staff, has been transferred to Iruwa Specialist Hospital for further treatment because we don't have a dialysis unit here. FMC Yola moves to separate conjoined twins.

The Federal Medical Centre, Yola has scheduled a set of conjoined twins for surgical separation. This follows a revelation that the Civil-Military Relations Unit of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had airlifted the set of conjoined twins along with their parents and medical team from Yenagoa, in Bayelsa State, to Yola, the Adamawa State capital. The purpose is to have a successful separation of the twins, joined at the abdomen. It was further learnt that NAF’s involvement is in furtherance of its humanitarian commitments. Chief Medical Director of the FMC Yola, Prof. Auwal Muhammed, confirmed to DAILY POST that the hospital had received the twins. He said, however, that the surgical procedure to separate them would not be carried out immediately. “It won’t be done until after some months,” he said, adding that the twins need to grow some more before the procedure could take place. NANNM calls for release of abducted aid worker

National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives ,Plateau state council on Monday called on the Federal government, state government and all relevant authorities to work to ensure the release of Jennifer Ukambong Samuel from her abductors .
