The Sokoto State Government has confirmed nine deaths as a result of as suspected case of gastroenteritis in seven local government areas of the state. Gastroenteritis occurs when a person’s stomach and intestines are irritated and inflamed. The cause is typically a viral or bacterial infection, experts say. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr. Mustapha Ali, on Friday in Sokoto, listed six of the affected LGAs as Illela, Sabon-Birni, Gada, Goronyo, Isa and Tureta. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that most of the LGAs border the Niger Republic. Ali stated that the situation was under control, as the state and Federal Government officials have been deployed to the affected areas, while medications and other aids have also been made available. The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) held its meeting today in Jos the plateau state capital, the meeting took place today at the conference hall, College of Nursing vom, Juth Campus. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mustapha Garba, UGONSA PRO, Northern Region and a staff of Federal University Kashere. The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) at its meeting  held today in Jos, the Plateau state capital, decried the maltreatment of Graduates of Nursing Science working in state owned hospitals and tertiary institutions. The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA), both of which constitute about 95 per cent of the workforce in the health sector have rejected report of the Yayale Ahmed Presidential Committee of Experts on Professional Relationships in the Public Health Sector (YAPCEPRPH). In an open letter to President Mohammadu Buhari dated, July 25, JOHESU and AHPA dissociated themselves from the committee’s recommendations for the establishment of the office of the Chief Medical Adviser to the President, the creation of a National Healthcare Commission, rejects the Committee’s opposition to the appointment of other health professionals as directors in federal health institutions, among others. Rejection of majority of the recommendations of the YAPCEPRPH by JOHESU and AHPA was based on their confirmations that the Secretariat of the Committee was infiltrated by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) through its privileged members in government. ...
