Katsina Nurses Protest in Hospital over Colleague's Assault on Duty by Police

Some members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Katsina branch on Wednesday protested because of a police officer, who assaulted a nurse on duty. Katsina Post reports that one Umar Kanada, a duty nurse at Accident and Emergency unit of General Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital (GARSH) Katsina was allegedly beaten by some police officers who said to have brought accident victims to the hospital. Narrating the incidence with dismay, Nurse Kamaluddeen Kabir, the NANNM chairman GARSH said it is disheartened a security officer to harass health worker on duty whose mandate is to save lives. Kamaluddeen, who complained of the frequent assault on health workers by security personnel said it was becoming a menace in the health sector.
