Katsina Nurses Protest in Hospital over Colleague's Assault on Duty by Police

Some members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Katsina branch on Wednesday protested because of a police officer, who assaulted a nurse on duty.

Katsina Post reports that one Umar Kanada, a duty nurse at Accident and Emergency unit of General Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital (GARSH) Katsina was allegedly beaten by some police officers who said to have brought accident victims to the hospital.

Narrating the incidence with dismay, Nurse Kamaluddeen Kabir, the NANNM chairman GARSH said it is disheartened a security officer to harass health worker on duty whose mandate is to save lives.

Kamaluddeen, who complained of the frequent assault on health workers by security personnel said it was becoming a menace in the health sector.

He said health workers were severally assaulted and intimidated by security officers while in the hospital, adding that the menace had so much affected the productivity of the affected workers.

“We, the health workers say this is unacceptable and we are not going to tolerate such acts of intimidation by security personnel any longer.

“A member of ours was assaulted on Wednesday around 5p.m by a police officer while attending to an emergency case.

“In the cause of that, we have decided to inform the hospital management to take the necessary action of preventing further occurrence and to bring the officer to book. Enough is enough!

Hajiya Jamila Haruna, the Chairman, Hospital In Charge, Katsina eye center said that physical assault on Nurses by security officers was not the first time, adding that it must be stopped.

She added that it a high peak of irresponsibly for a police officer to slap a nurse on duty in his designated hospital.

UGONSA: Plateau State Chapter Meet, Set Up Caretaker Committee.

The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) held its meeting today in Jos the plateau state capital, the meeting took place today at the conference hall, College of Nursing vom, Juth Campus.
