Nine killed as gastroenteritis hits Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has confirmed nine deaths as a result of as suspected case of gastroenteritis in seven local government areas of the state. Gastroenteritis occurs when a person’s stomach and intestines are irritated and inflamed. The cause is typically a viral or bacterial infection, experts say. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr. Mustapha Ali, on Friday in Sokoto, listed six of the affected LGAs as Illela, Sabon-Birni, Gada, Goronyo, Isa and Tureta. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that most of the LGAs border the Niger Republic. Ali stated that the situation was under control, as the state and Federal Government officials have been deployed to the affected areas, while medications and other aids have also been made available. He, however, refuted the claims that it was an outbreak of cholera, noting that experts have since taken samples for laboratory tests, in line with standard practice. UGONSA: Plateau State Chapter Meet, Set Up Caretaker Committee.

The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) held its meeting today in Jos the plateau state capital, the meeting took place today at the conference hall, College of Nursing vom, Juth Campus. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mustapha Garba, UGONSA PRO, Northern Region and a staff of Federal University Kashere. Graduate Nurses Carpets Plateau State Government.

The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) at its meeting  held today in Jos, the Plateau state capital, decried the maltreatment of Graduates of Nursing Science working in state owned hospitals and tertiary institutions. Chairman of the meeting Mr. Mustapha Garba, UGONSA Public Relations Officer, Northern Region and a staff of Federal University Kashere, earlier thanked the state government for creating the enabling environment for its members to operate but was quick to point out that a lot needed to be done. JOHESU, AHPA reject Yayale Ahmed report.

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA), both of which constitute about 95 per cent of the workforce in the health sector have rejected report of the Yayale Ahmed Presidential Committee of Experts on Professional Relationships in the Public Health Sector (YAPCEPRPH). In an open letter to President Mohammadu Buhari dated, July 25, JOHESU and AHPA dissociated themselves from the committee’s recommendations for the establishment of the office of the Chief Medical Adviser to the President, the creation of a National Healthcare Commission, rejects the Committee’s opposition to the appointment of other health professionals as directors in federal health institutions, among others. Rejection of majority of the recommendations of the YAPCEPRPH by JOHESU and AHPA was based on their confirmations that the Secretariat of the Committee was infiltrated by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) through its privileged members in government. ...

Registered Nurse Elected President of the Norwegian Parliament

Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen, a 52-year-old Nurse has been elected President of the Norwegian Parliament Nursingdetails.blogspot.com can confirm.  Trøen most recently has served as the Conservative Party’s spokesperson on health care issues and she has been leading the parliament’s committee in charge of family and cultural issues. She becomes only the second woman to lead Parliament in its history  and was elected Thursday morning by a vote of 152 in favour and two abstentions. “A united parliamentary delegation thinks Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen is well-suited to become the new president,” said Trond Helleland, leader of the Conservatives’ delegation in Parliament. “She has, in her committee work, shown herself to be a unifying and constructive politician. She can contribute towards strengthening confidence in Parliament.”

Nurse Assaulted: The First Hand story

Barely a month after one  Dr. Okolo  went wild allegedly beating a Registered Nurse at a private hospital at Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos state, a junior doctor (House Officer) identified as Dr.  Nuwar Alhaji Modu  has decided to take the baton from his senior colleagues as he beat up a Nurse at the early hours of Thursday, the 26th  day of July, 2018. T he incident which occurred at the  University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital,  Maiduguri, Borno State had left professional Nurses wondering if these  frequent cases of assaults pummeling the landscape of our hospitals against nurses are jointly planned by the medical association or its just an ugly coincidence. We would recall that another nurse working with the Ondo State Government was earlier assaulted some months back by a Doctor. BREAKING: Doctor who assaulted a Nurse suspended indefinitely.

A medical officer at the University of Maiduguri teaching hospital Dr Nuwar Alhaji Modu who assaulted a female Nurse has been suspended indefinitely. This is contained in a letter addressed to him following the incident. Please find attached the letter of suspension from work.
