UGONSA Taraba Chapter Held its Maiden Scientific Session/General Meeting

The Taraba State chapter of University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA), held its general meeting/maiden scientific session yesterday February 20th 2019. The event which took place at the Nurses house in Jalingo, brought together graduate Nurses all across Taraba State. After words of prayer from both faiths(Christianity and Islam), members took out time to introduce themselves, stating where they are working at the moment. The Acting Chairman/Secretary Nurse Machoko M. R. took out time to welcome and thank all those who created time for the event. The scientific Session titled: Assertiveness in Nursing Profession, saw Nurse Machoko going memory lane from the era of Socrates to Smith up to the modern day Nursing practice. Nurses were reawakened to stand for the truth and honesty in the practice of the Nursing profession, never to relent on what is right. ASUU Strike: Lecturers walk out of meeting with govt delegation

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has staged a walkout from the meeting with a federal government delegation. The government delegation was led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The university lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike on November 4, demanding improved funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government. The National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, led the union’s delegation to Monday’s meeting. The ASUU delegation arrived at the ministry at exactly 5:00 p.m. but no member of the federal government delegation was around as at this time. The government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, arrived at exactly 6:00 p.m. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, was absent at the time the meeting started. Yellow fever hits Edo, two dead

Two persons have been confirmed dead from suspected cases of yellow fever in Edo State. It was gathered that the deaths occurred barely a week of the outbreak of strange ailments in some villages in Uhunmwode local government. Symptoms displayed by the victims include high fever, stomach pains, vomiting, nose bleeding, amongst others. Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. David Osifo, who confirmed the outbreak debunked rumours about Lassa fever or Ebola outbreak. He said his team of disease control experts was on ground in the affected area to contain the strange ailment. “You are correct. We suspect yellow fever, two have been confirmed as yellow fever and negative for lassa. “My team of experts was right there now to contain it. Nothing to panic the public about please,” Osifo said.

Nigerian Doctors, Nurses commit to harmonious relationship

Nigerian doctors and nurses have committed themselves to a better working relationship in the health sector and stoppage of unhealthy rivalry, the President of Nigerian Medical Association, Francis Faduyile, has said. Mr Faduyile said this in a statement Tuesday after a courtesy visit to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in Abuja. The official said the NMA was prepared for a better relationship with the nurses and is always committed to the restoration of the lost glory of health workers. He said such collaboration would guarantee better working relationship, quality health care service for patients and better working environment. Nigerian doctors and nurses have been on warpath over the years especially because doctors specifically oppose most of the welfare demands of JOHESU (Joint Health Sector Union), a group of other health workers apart from doctors. Nursing Council: Protesting students block Enugu Psychiatric Hospital with coffin

Protesting students of the School of Basic Psychiatry and Nursing, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, on Tuesday, barricaded the institution’s entrance with a coffin. The nursing students were protesting the failure of the Hospital to register them for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria examination, after they had paid requisite fees. It was reported that the angry students caused a stir as they carried a mock coffin against the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe and the officer in charge of training in the hospital, Mr. Andrew Onowigwe. After a procession round the hospital, they placed the coffin at the entrance gate preventing people from either going in or out of the Hospital. Nine killed as gastroenteritis hits Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has confirmed nine deaths as a result of as suspected case of gastroenteritis in seven local government areas of the state. Gastroenteritis occurs when a person’s stomach and intestines are irritated and inflamed. The cause is typically a viral or bacterial infection, experts say. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr. Mustapha Ali, on Friday in Sokoto, listed six of the affected LGAs as Illela, Sabon-Birni, Gada, Goronyo, Isa and Tureta. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that most of the LGAs border the Niger Republic. Ali stated that the situation was under control, as the state and Federal Government officials have been deployed to the affected areas, while medications and other aids have also been made available. He, however, refuted the claims that it was an outbreak of cholera, noting that experts have since taken samples for laboratory tests, in line with standard practice. UGONSA: Plateau State Chapter Meet, Set Up Caretaker Committee.

The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) held its meeting today in Jos the plateau state capital, the meeting took place today at the conference hall, College of Nursing vom, Juth Campus. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mustapha Garba, UGONSA PRO, Northern Region and a staff of Federal University Kashere.
