The Nigerian Medical Association and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives have unanimously resolved to adopt in its entirety a report of its inter-professional harmony committee set up to look into matters of professional disharmony in the health sector.
According to a communiqué signed by the national leaders of both associations, the decision was arrived at after a careful deliberation of the report submitted by its joint committee.
The move is part of both associations continued effort to bring the long standing rivalry among health workers to an end.
You will recall that in January 2019, the associations had met and set up an inter-professional harmony committee to investigate the strained relationship between doctors and nurses and develop viable solutions to end the crisis.
Several months after due investigations and negotiations, the committee have arrived at resolutions that will hopefully bring an end to the age long impasse in the sector.
The national bodies of both associations have also directed all its state branches to key into all decisions by its national leaders.
They have also resolved set up a six man panel to ensure full implementation of decisions arrived at by the inter-professional harmony committee.
According to the communiqué, “It is the belief of both professional associations that the machinery put in motion will lead to a long lasting and unprecedented improvement in the quality of healthcare delivery to the Nigerian populace"
