Stupendous Achievements With Four years of Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu.

Every organization or institution that is thriving is obviously blessed with a good leader. The Federal Medical Centre Keffi is indeed thriving because a man with a remarkable ability is at the helms of affairs. That person is Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu.

Investigation conducted by teaming journalists has shown that significant achievements have been achieved in under the present administration of Dr. Yahaya Baba Adamu.

A team of journalists concerned with the development of public healthcare, particularly in the North visited the health institution in Keffi, Nasarawa state, were they assess the achievements made so far under the able leadership of Dr. Baba Adamu.


The journalists in their survey discovered the performance of medical centre and also their Investigation revealed that FMC Keffi are among the best as healthcare providers in Nasarawa state and nigeria at large.

Since he assumed duty as the medical director of FMC Keffi in Nasarawa State, the medical centre has witnessed monumental and unprecedented development in various areas, including Service delivery, physical and infrastructural as well as hospital equipments and staff wellfare.

It is however good to point out right here the secret behind the accomplishments. On assuming duty he began by appreciating the efforts and contributions of his predecessors who laid the foundation stone of the medical centre.

This he did by thorough study of the available records at his disposal and physical inspection of existant policies, programs and structures in the FMC that gave him full insight and sense of direction of how to move the medical centre to another level of development.

It was from there he identified the most important and urgent needs of the federal medical centre Keffi.



HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AS MEDICAL DIRECTOR:

In his effort to apply the best of his ability to reposition and improve the performance of this institution, the Medical Director was able to record numerous achievements:

Completion of a new laboratory extension complex (from foundation Level); ward extension (from foundation Level); and Dialysis Unit (from foundation Level) equipped with ultramodern dialysis machine and

water treatment plan.

Others are: VIP Ward (from foundation Level) equipped with ultramodern automatic beds; creation and equipping new Burns unit between accident and emergency; upgrading of facility in A&E with provision of multi parameter patient monitor, pulse oximeter; upgrading of a four-bed ICU facility with pipped oxygen.

There are also: conversion of old isolation ward to ultramodern 10-bed ICU with ultramodern equipment (e.g. most recent oxygen concentrator, defibrillator, ventilators etc.); upgrading of Main Theater and O&G theatre; upgrading of A and E theater; piping of oxygen to SCBU, O & G theater, A and E theater; construction of new ICU (former Isolation Unit now at 90 per cent completion); Dental Laboratory Extension; construction of offices and public toilets; construction of Family Dentistry Unit; construction of side Labs in GOPD and cashier cubicles; expansion of O and G theater.

Also included are: construction of five industrial boreholes; construction of multi-specialist clinic (90 per cent completion; construction of isolation and treatment centre (through NCDC Intervention); expansion of theater pharmacy; povision of GOPD pharmacy call room and expansion of pharmacy compounding call

room; construction of a new building to accommodate the Budget, Planning and Statistics office; creation of Trauma unit in A&E. Modernisation of the board room, equipped with ultramodern public address system; and the provision of new medical equipment, among others.

Service Delivery: The Management, under his leadership has improved the various services rendered to the centre’s clients. According to SERVICOM has been upgraded and empowered to monitor all the service points to ensure that patients are served right. The Federal Medical Centre, Keffi is amongst equals to publish its Service Charter and keep clients informed about the services rendered and what is expected from the customers/clients.

Human Resource Development: A significant number of staff were sponsored for either long or short term courses during the period under review. In his bid to ensure best practice in terms of Healthcare is achieved, Dr. Baba Adamu ensured that staff were sent for training and retraining in order to refresh and update their knowledge for better output.

INDUSTRIAL HARMONY

Over the years, the Medical Director, Dr. Baba Adamu, has done a lot to maintain industrial harmony. His open door policy to the leadership of various Workers, Unions in the Centre through regular interaction has led to a continuous industrial harmony with attendant positive consequences of unhindered healthcare delivery in the Centre.

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HOST COMMUNITY

In order to strengthen the existing good relationship between the Centre and the host community, Hospital Committee League of Friends and Conflict Resolution were reconstituted thereby involving well meaning individuals and holders of various traditional title to be mediating, in any case of complaints by a group or individual, so that lasting solutions would be provided to such cases.

“FMC Keffi has become a first class medical hub of Nigeria, a sight not common with government owned health care facilities”.

The Federal Medical Center Keffi today unveiled the new Standard Operating Procedure and Drug Policy for the hospital. UGONSA: Plateau State Chapter Meet, Set Up Caretaker Committee.

The Plateau state chapter of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) held its meeting today in Jos the plateau state capital, the meeting took place today at the conference hall, College of Nursing vom, Juth Campus.
